1970 Gröden Giant Slalom World Champion and 4th in Downhill
I have excellent reminiscences about Gröden. First of all because ther reigns an extraordinary athmosphere, secondly because I became Giant Slalom World Champion in the 1970 Gröden World Championships. Concerning my claim about the downhill course (of 1970) to have be too easy one should remember that it was then that machine grooming of the courses had started. So, obviously they became easier, but you never can compare the 1970 situations with today. In those times, the courses were a sequence of humps, holes, jumps, and curves. The evolution of downhill removed most of them but I must say that the today's Saslong Downhill is not only beautiful but also very difficult and selective. - 2004
