Gustav Thöni about the Saslong: “Even faster than during training“

After having inspected the piste, Gustav Thöni gave the editors of www.saslong.org the latest updates on the condition of the slope.
“The piste has become even faster than during training. Key points will be the flat section on the upper slope as well as the entrance into the Ciaslat meadows”. the four-time overall World Cup winner explains.
Gustav Thöni, now working as an official for the Italian Ski Association, believes the piste to be in an ideal condition. “The piste is perfect, the snow exactly right. This year there are more key points than ever. The most important, however, will be the flat section on the upper slope as well as the entrance into the Ciaslat meadows.” Thöni says. Asked who his favourite was, Thöni says: “There are a number of skiers who could win today. After his results in the practice runs Cuche is of course a hot favourite, but Bode Miller is also dangerous contestant. Of course one can never count the Austrians out, even if at the moment they aren’t skiing their best.” Thöni also expects some results from “his” Italians: “Peter Fill is in excellent form, but even Kurt Sulzenbacher could cause an upset.” Thöni himself never managed more than a 7th place (1975 and 1977) on the Val Gardena downhill race.
