Weather forecast: watching closely the wind
Wind will once again dominate today’s Downhill race in Gardena-Gröden. Currently there are gusts of 30 to 40 km/h at the Start and but this could intensify in the early afternoon. “Föhn” wind is expected at the Finish. Jury will decide at 11:30 am whether to move the Start to a lower position.
Gianni Marigo from Arpav, the local weather and avalanche bureau located in Arabba, has described today’s meteorological situation to Race Director Rainer Senoner as follows: “The wind has weakened in the early hours of the day to about 30 to 40 km/h but this could intensify to about 60 km/h at the Start. Temperatures will be around -6 C and could rise to about -2 to -1. “Föhn” wind will return to the valley significantly increasing temperatures.
The Jury will decide at 11:30 am whether to move the Start of the race from its “classic” location to a lower position.
