Downhill: The Start List

Yesterday’s Super-G outstanding leader Aksel Lund Svindal (NOR) will try his luck in today’s Downhill starting with bib 16. His fellow country man Kjetil Jansrud who placed second in the last trainer on the Saslong will start with bib 12. Opening the 45th World Cup Donwhill in Gardena/Gröden is Guillermo Fayed from France. Marco Sullivan will start with bib 23. The Jury wants to hold a race despite the bad weather forecast and has a few alternative solutions up its sleeve.

The two Norwegian Downhill specialists are ready to share the glory on the Saslong tomorrow. But the odds for Klaus Kröll (AUT) and Erik Guay (CAN) are also very good. Both athletes will start behind the Norwegians with bibs 17 and 20, respectively.
The French team with Adrien Theaux (bib 11) and Johan Clarey (21) have a open issue to settle on the Saslong as they were leading the race when it had to interrupted and subsequently cancelled last year. They are ready for the rematch.
As for the Italian team, hopes are running high. Werner Heel (bib 52) ranked 3rd in today’s Super-G, but also Dominik Paris (bib 9) are both strong contenders. The latter placed 13 in the Super-G starting with the relatively high bib 48.
The athletes will find out tomorrow morning what the race will look like. Current weather forecast predicts 4 and 8 inches of snow. Despite the expected snow, the plan stays as is for now. That means the classic Downhill race will start as originally planned at 12:15 pm on the entire Saslong track unless otherwise decided. This is what Günter Hujara announced at today’s Team Captains’ Meeting.
The decision to move the start will be taken 45 minutes before the race begins, so at 11:30 am says Hujara. If necessary, there will be two runs on the Saslong starting where the Super-G started today. The first run will start as originally planned at 12:15 pm, the second run’s start can be moved to 2:45 pm at the latest. If the second run is not taking place, the results of the first will count as final.
