Training Fastest Svindal: “Ciaslat was Turbulent, Snow will be Harder.”
The conditions for the first training run were good, even if the sun wasn’t showing and a few snow flakes fell from the sky by the end.
This is what the racers had to say at conclusion of their runs:
Aksel Lund Svindal, Norway:
First in Training
I skied well and as always, the course was very bumpy. The Ciaslat meadow is again quite turbulent, but the other jumps didn’t go very far. Given the current snow conditions, I believe that there just wasn’t more snow that could have been added. The course is in wonderful state, the OC has done a great job. In general, the snow wasn’t as soft as I expected it. It gets harder with every racer and we have to prepare for that. One has to keep an eye out on the local favorites from South Tyrol: Peter Fill has skied well the entire season and also Werner Heel has left a mark here. I’m curious to see if Dominik Paris will come back.
It’s amazing and wild to look at what they have done here. There is a full white strip course is good, the snow is perfect. And the jumps are also really well done. It’s a pure joy to ski and I’m really happy. Winning here would tie me in with a few really big names. It would be very cool but I have to focus on what I have to do and how I have to ski. Sure, I know the track, have to risk it but let’s remember that I’ve crashed more than I won here, so have to be careful, too. I have to be confident with myself and my line, and then hope for the best.
Travis Ganong, USA: 3rd with 0.42 delay
The course is really smooth, no natural and all man-made. The snow is perfect and consistent, smooth, and really fun to ski. All the jumps are very different, too. You have to jump very hard to clear them. The first Camel, for example has changed. The first Ciaslat jump is similar to how it was in the past, but the second is also very different. You have to ski them differently. But the snow is super smooth and it’s a lot of fun to ski the course.
Guillermo Fayed, France: 4th with 0.68 delay
Today the snow was easy to ski. We had time to see all the bumps. The course is in very good condition because there isn’t a lot of snow. The course is actually perfect. My run was very nice. I think I have to lock in the position and lose some speed and we will see for the race.
Peter Fill, Italy: 7th with 0.81 delay
The Saslong is in optimal condition. There isn’t a lot of snow, but the course is perfect and it has been prepared really well. There are many bumps, as always, and the course is both difficult and beautiful at the same time. My run? It went all right. I lost a little time on the top part, but I have to improve on the lower section because I made a mistake in the exit of Ciaslat where I underestimated a wave.
Christoph Innerhofer, Italy: 20th with 2.30 delay
The track is all right. There are many waves and bumps, as always. The snow is neither icy nor soft. I tried to ski well, but certainly made a few mistakes. In fact, I’m not even that unhappy with my time.
Dominik Paris, Italy: 41st, with 2.81 delay
The course is well prepared, the OC has done a great job. My run was not that great, I’ve tried a few things, but at the end I’m pleased with how I did because some parts I skied well.
