Skifestival in Val Gardena with a new winner

Everything was ok today. Interesting race, many spectators (more than 2000) and fantastic atmosphere in the parterre of the Super G, the second after 19 years in Val Gardena.

Then the winner was the great Pirmin Zurbriggen, this year his compatriot Didier Defago reached his best performance at all, winning his first race in World Cup. “I was very nervous until the end of the race” declaired the nice Swiss fellow.
The real surprise of today was the Austrian Hannes Reichelt with his second place, only 11/100 behind the winner. The Dolomites seem to be a good meadow for the young Austrian, who only 10 days ago won a EuropeCup giant slalom in S.Vigilio di Marebbe (50 km from here).
“Quite tired because of the hard training of last weeks”, but satisfied with his performance is also Marco Buechel from Liechtenstein, 3rd today. He probably won’t start tomorrow and wants to concentrate for Sunday’s giant slalom in Alta Badia.
Best Italian racer was today Arnold Rieder, 17th. “My actual shape is good and therefore I’ve decided to start today” declaired the young Southtyrolean. It was his first Super G in World Cup.
