Aksel Lund Svindal Fastest in 1st Training
Will it be a battle between giants? The double Downhill season winner Aksel Lund Svindal from Norway was fastest in today’s first training ahead of three-time Saslong Champion Steven Nyman from the USA.Â
Today, Wednesday, was the first Downhill training of the 48th Saslong Classic. Aksel Lund Svindal was fastest with a time of 1:59.34 confirming that he is in top form. 23/100 seconds slower was the next favorite: the American Steven Nyman showed once again, that he feels very comfortable on the Saslong. Third placed was Travis Ganong (USA) with 42/100 seconds behind, on a cloudy day in Val Gardena/Gröden.Â
Good news for our local favorites, too: Just like Svindal, local Peter Fill shows that he is ready placing 7th (+0.81), ahead of fellow country man Werner Heel (10th, +1.16). As often happens on the Saslong, racers with higher bib number managed to keep the run interesting by squeezing into top placements: 48 Brice Roger placed 5th place (+0.70), 40 Andreas Sander from Germany placed 6th (+0.78) and 50 Mattia Casse placed 8th (+0.86).
