The Saslong Classic Club held a prize giving ceremony to promote juvenile sports

Six young athletes were awarded

The Saslong Classic Club, organiser of the World Cup events held in Val Gardena, gave away Foundation prizes today in memory of Hermann Nogler.
Among the 10,000 that were allocated,  the Foundation selected 6 young athletes and the Ski Club from Val Gardena.

The prize-winners are the well known figure skater Carolina Kostner, Claudio Mussner for biathlon, snow boarder Emanuel Perathoner, skiers Yvonne Runggaldier and Arno Mussner and last but certainly not least, Lisa Demetz who currently holds the record for her jump last Sunday at Predazzo (92,5 m).  Val Gardena¹s Ski Club was also awarded for its youth activity.

³We are truly pleased about being able to make a small contribution for the third time to young athletes,², says Stefania Demetz, president of the Saslong Classic Club.  ³We are convinced that sports can only reach their maximum level through the promotion of young athletes.², adds Demetz.

Four years ago, Saslong Classic Club¹s board of directors established a Foundation for the promotion of young athletes.  The Foundation¹s name is in honour of Hermann Nogler, famous coach from Stenmark, who passed away in 2000.  During his career, Hermann Nogler made a huge effort to support talented young athletes.  The Foundation makes a contribution to promising juveniles and to the various winter sports associations in Val Gardena.

The very first prize giving ceremony was held in 2000.  Trustees of the Foundation include some famous athletes, like former skier and daughter of Hermann Nogler, Lotte Nigler;  Isolde Kostner, Olympic gold medalist and two time World Champion;  Peter Runggaldier, second place winner in the 1991 World Cup for the downhill and first place winner for the Super G in 1995;  Werner Perathoner, 5th place in the Super G at the 1994 Olympics in Lillehammer , 2  World Cup victories and 11 times on the podium and Robert Demetz, president of Val Gardena¹s Ski Club.
