Preparations on the Saslong have begun
With the sudden onset of cold weather also the snow making on the Saslong has begun. 60 snow cannons are in use on the 3.5 km long slope. Another 25 cannons are in use on the so called āBā-slope, so that the spectators can ski downhill starting from Sochers also during the ski race.
Horst Demetz, who is responsible for the slopes, explains how his team prepares them: āFirst we produce a stripe of snow of about 3 metres from the first Sochers-wall to the finish area. This stripe of snow is necessary to reach and control the snow cannons set up along the slope at any time, that means during day and night time. We continue the preparation with three snowcats and three snowmobiles and transport also a big amount of material, e.g. nets, tarpaulins, gate poles and things like that to the top. As soon as the machines have produced enough snow, we will start with the setting of the race track (29th November). Then 30 collaborators are going to work for three weeks in order to prepare the Saslong for the World Cupā.
Already at the beginning of October clearance work was carried out. Moreover the mountain guide Vinzenz Runggaldier and his team fixed the safety nets on the āAā-slope.
