Maier: „Unfair race!“

Hermann Maier made accusations about a lottery and inappropriate training, strongly influenced by the wind.

“Skiing is an outdoor sport so unfortunately races are sometimes held under conditions like today’s. My biggest regret is that I always have the misfortune of skiing against the wind except for one time when I had the wind behind me but it didn’t help much”, said Maier remembering his terrible fall at the 1998 Olympic games in Nagano.
Maier realized he didn’t have a good chance at winning as soon as he felt the wind on the upper part of the race course “at that point I decided it was better to be safe than sorry especially around the Camel Humps where it just wasn’t worth the risk”.
