Demetz Confirmed as President of the World Cup

Vilamoura (Portugal), 27.5.2006 - Erich Demetz from Val Gardena was confirmed in his position as the chairman of the FIS World Cup Committee.
The 68-year-old was voted into this position for the first time in 1986. According to Demetz one of the main concerns of the World Cup Committee is the struggle against specialization. „The Overall World Cup should go to an all-round skier, and not to a specialist“. Demetz claims that in the future skiing will experience a great evolution in the East, especially in China.

Erich Demetz was voted chairman for the first time at the FIS congress in Helsinki in 1986. He got into the footsteps of the founder of the World Cup and long-time chairman Serge Lang. Demetz is honorary president of the Saslong Classic Club, the organizers of the World Cup race in Val Gardena, where a Super G and a Downhill are scheduled in December 2006.
