Foundation Award Ceremony

Saslong Classic Club, organizer of the Ski World Cup races in Val Gardena/ Gröden, has selected the winners of the Hermann Nogler Trust Foundation awards.

This year, seven young athletes and the Skiclub Val Gardena/Gröden were awarded a total of approximately Euro 20,000. Winners include ski jumper Elena Runggaldier, the Nordic combine athlete Armin Baur, biathlete Claudio Mussner, alpine skiers Yvonne Runggaldier, Daniela Holzknecht and Marc Perathoner as well as disabled athlete Florian Planker. Skiclub Val Gardena/Gröden was also awarded for its exemplary youth development program.

"The financial contribution should provide for additional motivation among these young athletes as the path to one's first World Cup race is all but easy" noted former top athletes Peter Runggaldier and Werner Perathoner during the award ceremony at the Hotel Adler in St.Ulrich/Ortisei. Everyone commended the moral role model played by Hermann Nogler to whom the foundation is dedicated.

The Saslong Classic Club has established this Trust Foundation in 2000 in order to promote sport among talented young people. It is named  after Mr. Hermann Nogler, a well known couch (Ingemar Stenmark) and supporter of young athletes from Val Gardena/Gröden who passed away in 2000. The Foundation encourages young talented sports people as well as sport associations of Val Gardena/Gröden.

Trustees of the Foundation are well-known athletes including the former ski racer and daughter of Hermann Nogler, Lotte Nogler; winner of two Word Cup Championships and Olympic medalist Isolde Kostner; downhill silver medalist in the 1991, World Cup Championship and Super G World Champion in 1995 Peter Runggaldier; Werner Perathoner (5th in Super G OS Lillehammer 1994, 2 World Cup victories and 11 medals); and President of Skiclub Val Gardena/Gröden Reinhard Schmalzl.
