47 speed events in Val Gardena/Gröden

Val Gardena/Gröden is proud to have hosted World Cup races since 1969.  In the past decades, 47 speed races have been held, 43 of which in Downhill and 4 in Super G.

There have been 29 winners representing 8 different countries. Some athletes like Antoine Deneriaz, Kristian Ghedina, Franz Klammer, Peter Müller, Rob Boyd and Helmut Höflehner have stood on Saslong’ s podium more than once.

There have been 4 Super-G winners, two were from the Swiss team  (Zurbriggen and Defago), one Norwegian (Kjus) and one Austrian (Walchhofer).  So far, only two athletes have won both the Super G and the Downhill, i.e. Switzerland’ s former superstar Pirmin Zurbriggen (who  won the Super-G in 1983  and the downhill in 1989) and  the Norwegian Lasse Kjus, winner of the Downhill in 1998 and Super-G in 2003.

Austria holds the lead in national results for the Downhill with a total of 15 victories followed by Switzerland (13 victories) and Italy (5 victories), after which follow Norway and France with 3 victories, Canada with two, and Liechtenstein and Germany with one on Saslong.
