Kernen faster than intended

“I was the fastest among humans. Today, Ghedina was superhuman” the Swiss skier Bruno Kernen jokingly comments on his delay of 1.48 seconds.
“I didn’t intend to ski so fast, as I would have preferred a lower starting number for Saturday’s downhill race” explains Kernen reminding us of the starting rule whereby the practice run’s fastest will start with bib number 30 on the day of the race. Nevertheless, Kernen’s expectations for Saturday are limited. ‘I’ve never placed among the top ten on this course, so hoping for a spot on the podium would probably be off-mark.” Kernen’s best ranking on this slope was an eleventh in 1996. “My expectations for the Super-G are higher”, says Kernen. His best rank in that discipline was fifth (2002.)
Despite the somewhat disappointing results, Kernen always looks forward to the downhill on Saslong in Gröden/Val Gardena. “I very much like the slope and it is in exceptional conditions this year” praises the skier and adds “it is always an experience to take the jump across the camel back.”
