Marco Buechel wins gold
The Lichtenstein-native Marco Buechel wins the World Cup downhill race on the Saslong course.
The starting position had to be moved due to sudden snow falls. With a time of 1 minute and 27.99 seconds, the Lichtensteiner skier Marco Buechel was ahead by 0.02 seconds of Austrian Michael Walchhofer. Third place went to Eric Guay of Canada (delay of +0.20 seconds) after placing 2nd at the Super G the prior day. Favourite Kristian Ghedina, who clocked the best time at both practice runs, placed 4th with a delay of 0.43 seconds.
The race had to be terminated after 41 of 55 racers had started. However, it will count as an official race.
