Ghedina: “A wooden medal works for me”
“I’m calm and also satisfied with my achievement. However, I have to admit, that I felt I could have won.” comments Ghedina. “I’ve proven my constant progress and that raises my hopes towards the Olympic games and I’ve also felt very comfortable on the Saslong course.”
Do you think that the lowering of the starting position was a disadvantage for you? “I certainly wasn’t advantaged: the course was shortened and the weather conditions not at all optimal. I recovered on the central part of the course, but it didn’t suffice to get me on the podium. I’m happy for Buechel, who has been skiing superbly this year thus far, whereas Walchhofers 2nd place is yet another proof. The Austrian has a muscle mass which allows him to follow a line which is not accessible to lighter skiers such as I. I’m also convinced that we’ll hear more about the Canadian skier Guay who has talent and the right amount of professional wickedness.”
How did it feel to run your last competitive race on the Saslong? “There is the risk that I might shed a tear, as I’m very close to this course. Beyond that, I’m very content: Saslong has offered me a lot over the course of my career.”
When will you publish your book? “Very soon. My fan club will be able to get to know me not only professionally but also personally. I’ve been working with a journalist to help me write, or else it would still be in its infancy. I hope you read it.”
