Lichtenstein again after 12 years
Gold goes again to Lichtenstein after Markus Foser’s surprise win on the Saslong 12 years ago.
“This was my biggest success ever” says an overjoyed Marco Buechel from the arrival. His winning time of 1 minute 27.99 seconds sufficed for his first downhill gold on a shortened racing course. “One had to fully prepare for the race, as conditions were very difficult” commented the winner, who wasn’t at all satisfied with his 14th place at yesterday’s Super G. “I was very upset and thus quite pumped for today’s race. I wanted to ski fast and kept a very aggressive form. ” Additionally, the 34-year-old let us onto another secret: “the key was not to ski too hard and to “swallow” all the little bumps on the course”.
