Oldies, but Goldies
The press conference in St.Christina was filled with interesting tidbits. According to gold podium Didier Cuche: “Sometimes one has to look for luck. I pushed hard particularly in the latter parts of the race and that is where I beat Bode Miller.”
Both Miller and third placed Marco Büchel arrived to Gardena-Gröden in their respective RVs. Maybe also Cuche will consider this option for his next race. “I’ve been thinking about it. But I want Bode Miller’s real thing and not Marco’s smaller version.”
The press was smitten by Bode Miller’s words: “I’ve made a few mistakes and have taken many risks. Despite being happy with my overall race I know that I could have taken a cleaner approach. Tomorrow’s downhill? Yet another demanding race requiring 101% of my efforts.”
Marco Büchel appeared to be the most charged of all three athletes. “Being on the podium ahead of the younger crowd is immensely satisfying. I’m feeling strong and I know that I could win a podium in the Downhill. The only upset was having to replace my back protector less then 24 hours before the race because one team (not further identified - editor’s note) has brought a complaint to FIS hoping that I would be disqualified. Strange, they have been going well for four years.”
