A pool of spectators in Selva-Wolkenstein

Friday’s presentation celebrating 40 years of World Cup in Gardena-Gröden was well attended by many fans and spectators alike. Over a thousand people squeezed into the newly renovated Nives square to take part in the award ceremony of the Super-G.

A delightful show featured dance and music choreographies, the bib number selection for tomorrow’s Downhill race and brief speeches by pioneers of the local Organizing Committee.

On stage were Edmund Dellago, Erich Demetz and Arnold Demetz who all have made history in this picturesque valley in the heart of the Dolomites. In addition, brief addresses by the president of the local Tourism Association Ambros Hofer, the mayor of Selva-Wolkenstein Roland Demetz, the president of Club 5+ Viktor Gertsch and a representative of the military Tenente Colonnello Peter Paul Tarfusser, commander of the centro carabinieri addestramento alpino were made. In addition to Gernot Mussner, OC Chief Information Officer and also speaker for the evening, the evening was hosted by Stefania Demetz, OC General Manager: “It is wonderful to have this tremendous turnout tonight.” These were few, yet very powerful words that demonstrate the strong link between the local population and those who have spent time and money to stay in the game of the Ski World Cup circuit. A group of young students and a very talented songwriter rounded out the evening.

It should be noted that the event "40 Years Worldcup Gardena/Gröden" was financially backed by the foundation "Stiftung Südtiroler Sparkasse". The Organizing Committee would like to express its gratitude to the Foundation, whose open-mindedness and approach to culture and sports have allowed for a more artistic rendition of the celebration.
