Deneriaz: „Gardena-Gröden will always have a special place in my heart“

Two-times winner in the Downhill on the Saslong course is back in Gardena-Gröden. This time as a spectator after announcing his retirement a few days ago.

“I have fond memories of Gardena-Gröden. This is were I skied my first podium and also my first gold.” says the 31-year-old Frenchman, who placed first in 2003 and 2004. “Gardena-Gröden will always have a special place in my heart”.

How does one win on the Saslong? “You have to pick up speed wherever you can – right at the start, before the Camel Humps and after each jump”. His picks for today’s downhill include the Austrian Michael Walchhofer. Kurt Sulzenbacher is the surprise outsider and also Deneriay country-man Johan Clarey has good odds.

What are his plans for the future? “I haven’t made up my mind but I am in no rush”.
