Walchhofer is unrivaled
Prodigious Austrian skier Michael Walchhofer took gold at the thrilling FIS Ski World Cup Downhill race in Gardena-Gröden. He took the lead thanks to his sliding abilities ahead of an extraordinary Didier Cuche (+0.18) and American Scott Macartney (+0.56). Sulzenbacher first Italian rank (13rd).
Walchhofer is overcome with joy: “I’ve placed four times second here in Gardena-Gröden and I finally managed to claim victory. I fought like a lion and it paid off.” Cuche almost took yet another gold after yesterday’s victory in the Super-G. “I knew that I would be up against Walchhofer and Guay and I was right. A first and a second placing in two days, not a bad outcome. I couldn’t have asked for more.”
