Austrian-born Michael Walchhofer, winner of the FIS Ski World Cup Downhill race in Gardena-Gröden is 32 years old and skies for the USc Altenmarkt in Salzburg. His future? Certainly in the lodging business.
Michael Walchhofer has claimed victory today thanks to his extraordinary gliding abilities. He skied a perfect race particularly in the upper part of the course. His free time is spent riding trail bikes and on touring skis. A 9th place in the 1999 slalom in Kranjska Gora was his first FIS Ski World Cup race. His career includes three Olympia appearances winning one podium. He has raced in 176 World Cup races winning 34 podiums.
