On Friday: Christmas Concert with Youth Orchestra Sonoton
The “Youth Orchestra Sonoton Gherdëina“ will provide this year’s musical entertainment during the award ceremony and subsequent bib selection in Ortisei-St.Ulrich.
The orchestra was founded in 1992 with the aim to give young musicians from the surrounding ladin-speaking valleys the opportunity to perform in an orchestral setting elaborating pieces from different stylistic periods. It is comprised of about 60 musicians. Eduard Demetz was the conductor until 1998. In 1993, the orchestra performed publicly for the very first time giving a sneak preview of the talents and abilities of these young performers.
Several concerts followed each year with relevant symphonic works and solo concerts featuring local soloists. The orchestra has already performed at “Badia Musica” and “Val Gardena Musica”, two local music festivals. Several concerts were also broadcast on public radio and TV.
Vinzenz Senoner was the musical director of the orchestra from 1998 to 2007 followed by Matthäus Crepaz who took over the reigns in 2008. Soprano: Priska Malsiner.
The award ceremony and subsequent bib selection will take place on Friday, December 18th at 6:00 pm in Ortisei-St.Ulrich.
