Friday’s entertainment program at the Finish will include a performance by local whip lashers (a.k.a. “Goaslschnöller”).

These artists use whip lashes to acoustic effects following an old tradition typical for this area. Many decades ago, shepherds located in remote areas communicated with each other through lashing their whips. The tradition lives on all over the Tyrolean Alps and is performed every year on May 1 to drive out the winter season. In addition, it is sometimes featured in traditional events or as a hobby. This particular “Goaslschnöller” group from Gardena-Gröden was founded nine yeas ago and includes four members: Toni Rabanser, Johann Pitschieler, Robin Demetz and Jvan Stuffer. They perform as a duo, a trio or a quartet. There are regional championships where different groups compete against each other. The jury assesses posture, beat, volume and dress code following a performance that typically lasts for 45-second.
