Hujara: First steps towards improving athletes’ safety

At Friday evening’s Team Captains’ Meeting FIS Race Director Guenter Hujara reported about further regulations that have been discussed in Gardena/Groeden to improve the athletes’ safety.

The meeting with athletes and coaches during the Gardena/Groeden World Cup week was very productive, Hujara said at the Team Captains’ Meeting in Selva/Wolkenstein. Possibly as early as the next race some new regulations could be implemented. „At the next speed races we want to introduce new peat protections which will be attached to the poles via velcro and come off easily“, Hujara explained.  At the same time FIS guarantee financing a group of scientists to study further safety measurements. Another idea is to equip the athletes with sensors during the races in the future, to measure the forces that occur during races and to develop the material and safety clothing accordingly.
