Downhill: Night shift for those responsible for the piste

Nearly 15cm of fresh snow fell yesterday evening here in Gardena/Gröden. For this reason the 100-man team responsible for preparing the piste had to put in a night shift to clear the fresh snow from the race course.

For Horst Demetz, the man in command of the team, today’s race day already began at 11pm yesterday. In the middle of the night he and his team started clearing the fresh snow from the piste. First the snowcats did the rough work, then at 4am 90 ski teachers from the three main ski schools in Gardena/Gröden, firemen and voluntary helpers went onto the piste to shovel snow.
