last week in Zurich. During the 25th annual general assembly of Club 5, the association of classic World Cup organizers, the President Srecko Medven and both other Vice Presidents Peter Willen (Adelboden) and Peter Fischer (Garmisch) have also been reelected for another term. The mandate has been increased from two to three years to provide for stronger continuity in the implementation of various projects. Club 5 was founded in 1986 and currently counts 15 members.
The representatives of Club 5 reviewed the past World Cup season. „The meeting was very constructive" adds Ms. Demetz. „We analyzed members‚ qualitative analyses to get a better handle on specific issues." The consolidated findings were discussed with the International Ski Federation FIS in a second meeting in Zurich and might already come to fruition this coming season to further improve the „AUDI FIS Ski World Cup" product.
Club 5 is planning to open up to include additional World Cup organizers. The admission process has been re-defined and is split into three different stages: affiliation, candidate status and full membership. The Croatian World Cup organizer Zagreb has filed an application to be included as a new member. There are currently 15 full members in Club 5 including Kitzbühel, Wengen, Garmisch, Val d‚Isère, Gardena-Gröden, Alta Badia, Cortina d'Ampezzo, Kranjska Gora, Maribor, Lake Louise, Schladming, Adelboden, Kvitfjell, St.Moritz and Åre.
The purpose of the association is to further strengthen the Alpine racing sport, increase the quality of the events and provide uniform solutions within the current organization framework in close cooperation with the International Ski Federation FIS.
