Schweiger wins First FIS Race in Gardena/Gröden
Austrian triple win in the FIS Super Combi on Piz Sella in Gardena/Gröden. Patrick Schweiger won ahead of his countrymen Markus Duerager and Johannes Strolz.
The 22-year-old won with a total time of 2:14.76 minutes which was 12/100 of a second faster than than second-ranked Duerager. Schweiger set the foundation for his victory in the Super-G which he won at a large margin whereas he had to concede the slalom race to several other racers. Best South Tyrolean ranking was set by Michael Eisath from near-by Eggen valley with a fourth position.
"This was a great race" says Race Director Rainer Senoner. "The course was stone-hart offering the same conditions for all 140 competitors".
The Super-G is scheduled for tomorrow, December 4th, at 9:30 am.
A total of 150 athletes from 16 nations have registered for the two races. Athletes born between 1992 and 1996 are allowed to participate in the races which were originally set for November 29th and 30th but then moved to allow for a better preparation of the race course.
