Raiffeisen FIS Challenge Gardena/Gröden: Double Victory for Mayrpeter
Today’s Raiffeisen FIS Challenge Races on Piz Sella in Gardena/Gröden ended with two Austrian treble victories. Thomas Mayrpeter won the Super-G as well as the Super-Combi, and in both races ahead of his fellow country-men Mario Karelly and last year’s winner Patrick Schweiger.
The 21-year-old won the Super-G with a time advantage of 42/100 seconds ahead of Karelly and 1.10 seconds ahead of Schweiger. Mayrpeter then proceeded to finish the subsequent Super-Combi with a total time of 2:13.90 minutes which was 33/100 and 77/100 seconds faster than the second and third placed, respectively.
Best Italian was 7th placed Paolo Pangrazzi in the Super-G and 5th placed Henri Battilani in the Super-Combi.
“It was a great race” says Jury Member and World Cup Gardena/Gröden Race Director Rainer Senoner. “The course offered the same conditions for all 175 competitors.”
There is another Super-G and Super-Combi on the program for tomorrow, December 3rd, on Piz Sella with start at 9:30 am.
A total of 175 athletes from 24 nations were registered for the two FIS races in Gardena/Gröden.
These races are being organized by the Saslong Classic Club, host of the Ski World Cup in Gardena/Gröden.
