(N.B.: who has been confirmed as President of FIS) insisted I add another term but I felt it was time to move on.” Mr. Demetz emphasized that his honorary work in leading positions within the world of ski has come to a definite end. The Val Gardena/Gröden-native received a standing ovation. Mr. Demetz has worked for over fifty years in an honorary capacity within the valley, in Italy and last, on an international level for the world of ski sport.

Another important crew change for South Tyrol was announced in Barcelona. Markus Waldner, 50, from Bressanone/Brixen is stepping into the role of Men’s Alpine Chief Race Director Günter Hujara after working several years as Continental Cup Coordinator. “This new role is a great honor for me” says Mr. Waldner. “We will try to maintain the high standards set by Mr. Hujara and his team in the last 23 years.” says the newly minted Race Director from South Tyrol.
Approximately 1100 delegates from 110 nations participated in the FIS Congress.
