Gianni Malagň, the president of CONI, the Italian national Olympic committee in Modena on Thursday. "Erich Demetz has dedicated his entire life to skiing" said president Roda in his honorific speech. "Internationally, Mr. Demetz was a great representative of the Italian world of skiing." The 76-year-old from Selva/Wolkenstein has been chairman of the FIS World Cup Committee for 28 years and member of the FIS board for 19. He was also vice president of the Italian federation for 22 years and its Alpine Director for two. Furthermore, Mr. Demetz was president of the Ski Club Val Gardena/Gröden and coach of the FISI regional federation in South Tyrol.

He was included as a member of FISI's "soci benemeriti", which stands for "well-deserving members", which includes only six additional people. A few years ago, Mr. Demetz also was awarded the golden honorary emblem by the Italian national Olympic
committee CONI.
