Local and International Guests of Honor in Val Gardena/Gröden
Personalities on local, national and international level cannot be amiss at the 48th Saslong Classic. The races on the Saslong are not only a highlight for athletes, but also attended by representatives of several businesses, politics and the community at large.Â
Guest of honor include the South Tyrolean Head of Government Arno Kompatscher and colleagues in the local government as well as several representatives from the towns of Val Gardena/Gröden and its surroundings. The International Ski Federation FIS is represented by General Secretary Sarah Lewis and TD Goradz Bedra. The President of the Italian Ski Federation FISI Flavio Roda is in attendance, as well.Â
A warm welcome was extended to former winners of the Downhill in Val Gardena/Gröden including Bernhard Russi (World Champion 1970 and Winner 1972), Kristian Ghedina (1996, 1998, 1999, 2001) and Conradin Cathomen (1982). A long list of former ski pros Benjamin Raich, Piero Gros, Tina Maze, Janica Kostelic, Gustav Thöni, Frank Wörndl, Hannes Trinkl, Kjetil Andre Aamodt, Hans Knauss, Armin Assinger, Mickel Finlay, Urs Lehmann and Marco Büchel made heads turn. Many of them are now working as technical commentators for several TV outlets who are reporting live from Val Gardena/Gröden. Local ski personalities are joining the event as well including Isolde Kostner, Denise Karbon, Karen Putzer, Peter Runggaldier and Werner Perathoner.Â
The partners of Saslong Classic Club and the FIS Ski World Cup are joining in the fun. Audi and Longines have invited guests to the Finish as did several companies including Emmi, Jack Wolfskin, Milka, Generali, Bridgestone, Rauch and Infront. Local businesses are here too, including the Firmen Convention Bureau Südtirol, Duka, Itas, IW Bank, Kelly Fashion Company, Kiku, Leitner Group, McArthurGlen, Mediolanum, Messe Bozen with Prowinter, Prinoth, Red Bull, Sparer Gerüste, SPM, Sportler, Vontobel and XBionic.
Lastly, several public authorities and security forces as well as representatives of the juridical system joined along with local and international institutions. This included Dolomiti Superski, Eurac, the Export Organisation Südtirol, Hotel and Restaurant Association, Südtirol Marketing Gesellschaft, Südtiroler Sporthilfe und Val Gardena Marketing. Several World Cup organizing committee including Alta Badia, Cortina, Kitzbühel, Madonna di Campiglio, Kranjska Gora, Wengen and other partners of Club5 are here on an exchange of experience.
