Young World Cup
Young talents are important not only in the ski circuit, but also for the organizers of the Saslong Classic. This year, middle school students from Ortisei/St.Ulrich get a chance to look behind the scenes of this mammoth event which takes place right in front of their doorstep.
This special school project is the brainchild of OC Managing Director Stefania Demetz together with PE instructor Miki Denicolò and a few open-minded teachers who are providing students with the access to a variety of great minds: from members of the OC to journalists, directors, marketing specialists, coaches and athletes to FIS Racing Director Markus Waldner himself. The aim of the project is to present to the pupils the numerous tasks and professions involved in the World Cup.
This effort kicked off in the fall when Stefania Demetz a long with Race and Course Directors Rainer Senoner and Moritz Demetz told students about what has to be done in the run-up to the races: from safety issues to sponsoring to the hard core skill of course preparation. Media Director Gernot Mussner lead the light-hearted students into role plays as journalists, and some even found themselves on the other side of the microphone: in the role of Aksel Lund Svindal, for example.
The school project continues during the race week. The students get an insight into the TV work from the race course, can experience the directorship first hand, get to know the tasks of sports-marketing, talk with FIS Racing Director Markus Waldner, coaches and even athletes and of course follow the races.
The experience will be subject of a student newspaper - with a completely new, unique view of the Saslong Classic.
