The First Double Winner
Aksel Lund Svindal dominated the Saslong last year and he did so in two consecutive races. The Norwegian was at the top of the podium on Friday in the Super-G as well as in the classic Downhill race on Saturday - a feat that has not been accomplished before.
While this was his first Downhill gold in Val Gardena/Gröden, he is a frequent and well liked winner of the Super-G. In fact, including that victory, Svindal has captured four Super-G golds on the Saslong, followed by Michael Walchhofer from Austria with two victories. In the Downhill, it’s Franz Klammer from Austria and Kristian Ghedina from Italy who are leading the charge with four golds each, followed by Peter Müller from Switzerland and Steven Nyman with three golds each.
