FIS opens Racing Week – First Training on Wednesday
The FIS and all the participating nations have arrived in Val Gardena/Gröden! This evening, the first Team Captains’ Meeting took place in Selva/Wolkenstein and everybody is looking forward to the races on the Saslong.
“Fantastic” is how FIS Chief Race Director Markus Waldner described the conditions of the Saslong and praised thus the “difficult work” of the organizers. Rainer Senoner, President of the Organizing Committee opened the meeting and welcomed the guests. “For us this is ‘the weekend of the year’ and we’re ready!” he said on behalf of the OC.
All the jumps were examined one more time today in a final check and one change was made. “A small jump had to be removed so that the racers curb their speed just before the Camel Humps.” explained Waldner. “The Camel Hump jump itself is in great shape.” The weather promises to be sunny and stable in the coming days. Tomorrow’s weather forecast is a cloudless sky over the entire Dolomite region.
FIS technical delegate in Val Gardena/Gröden is Wilfried Dauber from Germany. The Bavarian was an active ski racer and has been working as a TD since 1982, among other places in Zauchensee, Kitzbühel and the World Championships in Val d’Isère. Mr. Däuber is operating manager for the mountain railways in his hometown Berchtesgaden.
The first training is scheduled for tomorrow 12:15 pm CET. The full Starting List can be found here.
