40th Saslong Classic: Start 12:15

Val Gardena/Gröden is expecting thousands of fans today on the occasion of its anniversary. It is the 40th time that the downhill skiers from 16 nations race on the classic Saslong. Is Kristian Ghedina going to win for the 5th time and overshadow Franz Klammer’s four victories? For the answer just wait until 12:15.

The side events programme is quite rich today. At 10 o’clock there is a music brakfast with the “Böhmische”. The most important South Tyrolean telemark clubs put on a ski-historical show on the final schuss. Over 100 local school children sing Christmas songs, the Val Gardena/Groeden folk dance group performs typical dances, while paragliders come down from the sky.

The ski schools of Val Gardena/Grödner display the latest ski techniques, and Peter Runggaldier and Werner Perathoner show once again their unforgettable style on the finish slope, while the numerous children of the Skiclub Gröden try to copy it. At the end Ulli Spieß is awarded (see separate news).
