The winner Kristian Ghedina was radiating after the race. "I'm really happy. Now I have caught up with the great Franz Klammer, who won four times here in Val Gardena/Gröden." Right after the race he had defined the Austrian Stephan Eberharter and Franco Cavegn (Switzerland) as his biggest rivals. Both raced after him, and non of them could come even close to his time.

Though starting with bib no. 20 Lasse Kjus from Norway finished beween the two Italians. "Today I felt really well. It was not easy to ski, the slope was really icy." The former World Cup champion was ahead of Ghedina up to the second intermediate timing, but at the finish he had a delay of 16/100: "In the bend leading to the finish downhill I made a mistake that made me loose time."

Before the race Kurt Sulzenbacher from San Candido/Innichen (Italien) stated he wanted to confirm his great result of Val d´Isere here on the Saslong. With this third place he definitely managed. However he is not completely happy: "I made some little mistakes. However it is almost impossible to reach the finish without making".
