First Training – The Opinion of the Athletes

The first after training, Kristian Ghedina, stated not to have had major difficulties. „I was quite surprised at the speed of the slope. The forerunners had told us, but I didn’t believe it.“ Opposite others he used all his strength. „In training I always give it all. You never know if there will be another one or if the others must be cancelled due to bad weather..

Stephan Eberharter, leading the World Cup rankings, is of the same opinion as Ghedina: „I always do the first training putting the most effort in it, it might be the last one. He doesn’t want to tell where he lost time. „Ghedina  might make use of it“, he explains laughing.
Lasse Kjus, winner in Val Gardena/Groeden in 1999 was surprised to have the same time as two years ago. „On the way I thought I was slow. But it was fun to run here.“ He finished training with a delay of 2,86 seconds ranking 10th.
The South Tyrolean podium hope, Kurt Sulzenbacher, was, as he states, not very concentrated at the start. „I got lots of congratulations for my 2nd place in Val d’ Isere, which made me loose concentration.“ About his placement he states: „I am only 12th, but the distance to Ghedina’s time of 3,12 seconds is pretty big.“
