Novelty, 19 years later

Exactly 19 years ago Val Gardena’ Saslong was scene of a World Cup Super G, the first and only up to now.

The race was in origin programmed for Madonna di Campiglio, where racers couldn’t run, because of lack of snow. Also in Val Gardena weather didn’t show the best conditions; bad visibility and snowfall influenced strongly the race, newspapers reported of a “wax-race”. Winner of that race was the Swiss champion Pirmin Zurbriggen ahead his team-colleague Martin Hangl (0,43 sec. behind) and the Austrian Leonhard Stock. Best Italian athlet got Riccardo Foppa, 15th 2,84 sec. behind the winner.
