FIS Committee President Erich Demetz:

"The new starting rules in downhill are well proved"
“Facts before. Most of downhills and Super G’s did infact finish after 5-6 racers last year. That means no suspense, no interest and of course bad economic consequences. Up to now new rules haven’t destorted the facts. The best racers didn’t have disadvantages and no outsider had particular advantages. Furthermore tactics are part of the profescional sport.
Also in the past the skiers fought to catch the ideal starting numbers and I’m sure that if the new rules establish definitely, we’ll have interesting races also after number 30 and maybe 40.
