Erich Demetz awards Bernhard Russi
On the occasion of the World Cup, Erich Demetz, President of the Saslong Classic Club, will award Bernhard Russi, Swiss ski legend that won the world title for the downhill in 1970 on Saslong. "At the starting gate there were eight competitors that I had never defeated before", recalls Russi, today a TV commentator and ski run designer.
" The previous evening's snowfall made the race a real struggle for the start numbers and since I drew number 15, I knew it wasn't going to be easy. At the last minute my coach took off all the wax from my skis. I thought it was going to be slow race, but instead I found a bumpy course from the beginning to the end with some jumps even longer than the training ones. As soon as I crossed the finish line, my brother Manfred yelled to me, ' Best time!!!', that was a crucial moment in my life and I'll never forget it for as long as I live."
The award ceremony will take place just before the start of the downhill.
